Scientific writing is difficult. You spend so much of your time doing great research, but that research needs to be translated to a manuscript or poster or presentation or grant. This kind of writing doesn’t come easily. I happen to love it. I want to help you present your work in the best light.
I am a PhD scientist with years of experience in academia and industry, writing and editing scientific manuscripts, presentations, CVs, and grant applications. I will develop a customized plan for you, and I will stay in contact with you throughout the project. I will not consider the project complete until you are satisfied.

English language editing and word count reduction included automatically.
Unlimited e-mail correspondence, scheduled video discussions if desired.
Standard rate is $150 per hour of work, including editing time and video meeting time. Minimum $750 for 5 hours per project.
Please note: following the initial consultation, I might determine that there is not sufficient information or data available to generate a submission-ready manuscript. If so, we can discuss other options for services.

My standard rate of $150 per hour is based on my experience and the attention I give to your project. I provide an honest assessment of the time needed to complete a project, and we can negotiate the overall cost.
English language editing, word count reduction, and CV/resume review for students and postdocs are services that I offer at a discount from my standard hourly rate.
I also offer sliding scale pricing for students, postdocs, and early career researchers who cannot use institutional or grant funds for my services. These fees start at 50% of my normal rate. Sliding scale excludes the fixed pricing for CV/resume reviews.
FAQs

For some projects, especially involving documents with very low word counts, commercial editing services could offer lower prices. For larger or more complex projects, my rates are comparable to those of commercial services.
For all projects, I will provide a much more customized and attentive level of service, and I provide frequent and complimentary communication throughout the project.

The cost of each project will vary depending on the work required, but as an example:
If you have a 4,000-word manuscript that is complete but needs editing for grammar, style, harmonization, and flow, I estimate 4 hours of work, or $600, for the project. This includes unlimited e-mail correspondence and a 30-minute video discussion if desired.
If a 4,000 word manuscript does not require editing for writing and flow, but only needs English language editing or word count reduction, then I would estimate $200 for the project, as stated in the “detailed offerings” section.

I offer sliding scale fees for students, postdocs, and early career researchers who cannot use institutional or grant funds for my services. This sliding scale rate is 50% of my standard rate, or $50-100+ for basic editing and $75 per hour for larger or complex projects.

Me! I’m a one-woman shop here. I am an industry scientist, a research biologist with a PhD in Molecular and Cell Biology and experience in startup and big Pharma. I have 13 years of scientific editing and writing experience. I will complete your project personally.

According to authorship and acknowledgement conventions, writing and editing work should be included in the Acknowledgements of your manuscript submission. You may use the following phrase:
“We would like to thank Ann Marie E Faust for editing and revising this manuscript.”

For manuscripts and other scientific documents, Microsoft Word documents are accepted. This file format is easiest to track changes and make suggestions. Please inquire if you only have a PDF or LaTeX version of your document.
For presentations and posters, PowerPoint and Keynote files are accepted.
